Mae S. Bruce Library
De-selection of Materials Policy
Materials which no longer fit the stated service roles of the Library
will be withdrawn from the collection.
This may include materials that are damaged, include obsolete
information, or are no longer used.
Decisions will be based on accepted professional practice, such
as those described in The CREW
Method, and the professional judgment of the Library director or
designated staff. When
necessary, local specialists will be consulted to determine the
continued relevance and reliability of materials.
Items
lost or damaged are considered for replacement.
Titles are not necessarily replaced by exactly the same item,
they may be replaced by others which are considered to be superior or
preferable.
Items withdrawn from the collection will be disposed of in a
responsible manner, which may include discarding into the trash or a
paper recycling bin, or transfer to the Friends of the Mae S. Bruce
Library. No items may be
sold or given directly to individuals.
Discarded magazines and newspapers may be given to other area
libraries or social service agencies at the discretion of the Library
director.
