Director’s Report

  1. We have a new security man. His name is Dale Bass.
  2. The City of Santa Fe didn’t hold any special activities for the City’s 30th birthday that the Mae S. Bruce Library would have participated in.
  3. The Galveston County Reads program is over for 2008.

Old Business

1.                  The memorial bench as been paid for in full - $336.46. We are still trying to reach Mrs. Long for a picture with the bench.

2.                  Linda hasn’t talked with Good News about the book sale, but the sale was advertised in the Thursday Bay Area edition of The Chronicle.

New Business

1.                  A Santa Fe citizen, Caycee Dowell, who does temporary work at the League City Helen Hall Library presented the board with information at this meeting. Caycee Dowell told us about the success of the Helen Hall library in getting a Friends group started. The Friends set up a booth at meet the teacher night in September to hand out information. They also went to school open houses and signed up kids for library cards, asking the parents to become involved with the Friends group. We must get a Friends group started to decide on dues, member perks, etc.

2.                  The book sale will be held May 2, 2008 from 9 until 4 pm. The 4-H group is coming to help with the setup and break down. Lark will donate books from her sale to the library sale. The Junkfood and Journaling group wants to fundraise for the teen area of the expansion. They would like to hold a bake sale concurrent with the book sale. The Board agreed to help run the bake sale since it will be during school hours. This group of teenagers is interested in forming a Junior Friends Group as well.

3.                  The Board is considering hosting old movies behind the library in the near future as a fundraiser for the expansion.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:07 pm. The motion was made by Barbara and seconded by Kim.  The next meeting has been set for Thursday, July 3, at 12:30 pm.
